The Cockayne Farmstead Victory Garden Project

The Cockayne Farmstead, home to a community Victory Garden located along Route 2 in Glen Dale, used its awarded $3,000 grant from the Northern Panhandle RC&D to successfully replace deteriorating raised garden beds, a much-needed upgrade that supports local gardeners and enhances the site’s visual appeal. With extensive help from volunteers and a team from Williams Energy, they removed old materials and helped install 32 yards of new soil. The upgraded beds are already in use, offering improved depth and a cleaner design, which gardeners have warmly welcomed. In addition to improving the functionality of the garden, the new beds make the Farmstead more inviting to passersby and potential future participants, supporting ongoing community engagement and sustainability efforts.
