Farm-to-Table Project for Kids
The GrowLab at Oglebay Park Resort enhanced environmental and agricultural education for 277 children through hands-on farm-to-table gardening experiences supported by the Northern Panhandle RC&D Council. As part of the long-running Oglebay Park Children's Association (OPCA) program, campers toured Oglebay's hydroponic greenhouse, learned how food is grown using hydroponic systems, and explored sustainable agriculture practices that support local food production. Children then participated in hands-on gardening activities by decorating pots, planting basil or parsley seeds, learning proper plant care techniques, and taking home growing kits and recipes featuring their future harvest. The project connected children to the full food-growing process while increasing awareness of gardening, healthy eating, and environmental stewardship. It also highlighted Oglebay's broader sustainability initiatives, including composting, recycling, resource conservation, and expanded opportunities for public education about sustainable food production.
